Verse 8 describes the Israelites crossing the Red Sea, and proceeding for three days into the wilderness of Etham, within which they camped at Marah, and then on to Elim (verse 9).
Certainly it’s hard to see what else cats do for humans, aside from looking cute and killing the odd mouse. The Bible also describes the Israelites “pitching” in only three different locations before the sea crossing—but it describes them pitching in eight different locations after it, on the way to Mount Sinai (Numbers 33:5-15). Griffiths' publishers clearly believe that they are on to a winner, already advertising this as the first in a series of Ruth Galloway novels.
Although they are not the remains of the missing little girl, Galloway is intrigued by the letters and the details about the girl’s disappearance and starts helping Detective Nelson to either find her dead or alive.
