The Pixel Slate is a bit of a perplexing device at first glance. It’s wrapped in a premium frame with first-class build materials and new technologies at the forefront. However, it’s also mighty expensive for what’s on offer. Of course, Pixel Slate looks a lot like the leaks that made it out through the second half of this year. The ‘Midnight Blue’ matte aluminum finish wraps this 7mm-thin (0.27 inches) tablet like a glove, and shines under direct light – it also feels cool to the touch. The Google Pixel Slate tablet has been created with an Intel Core M3 processor and 8GB RAM. With a battery that will last up to 12 hours and weighting just 720g, this is a highly portable as tablet, that’s ready to take on work tasks and help with some casual gaming. Battery performance is based on a mix of standby, web browsing and other use. Charging time requires the battery to be at least 5% charged, the device to be inactive and use of included charger. Actual results may vary.
On the design front, I welcome the Pixel Slate’s two USB-C connections. These sit along the top and bottom edges of the device and mean that, unlike the iPad Pro, you can have a peripheral plugged in while the Slate is charging – a bonus if you plan to use the device for word processing or basic office work. This layout can be vastly upgraded from here. There are Intel Core m3 and Y-series and even Core i5 processors available as well. Storage tops out at 256GB and memory can go as high as up 16GB on some configurations.

It has a 10.5-inch display with a resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels, making it perfect for use as both a laptop replacement and tablet. Additionally, it has an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, 128GB storage, and a 12MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash. Google’s Pixel Slate is a 7-inch tablet with a stylus and keyboard. The tablet runs on Android 9 Pie and has an Intel Core m3 processor. It has a 10-point multitouch screen, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. The Pixel Slate also has a 5MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear camera. About the Pixel Slate M3 The Google Pixel Slate lasts for a reliably long amount of time. Specifically, the Pixel Slate lasted 9 hours and 51 minutes on the Laptop Mag Battery Test (web browsing at 150 nits), a time that beats the 8:13 average by more than 1.5 hours. The Surface Pro 6 (9:20) fell half an hour short, while the iPad Pro (13:14) and Galaxy Book 2 (10:41) made it longer. The Pixel Slate also outlasted the Pixelbook (7:43), which was tested at a less-demanding 100 nits rate. Google Pixel Slate webcamThe Slate's gaming limitations revealed themselves when I tried out PUBG Mobile, which defaulted to the lowest graphics setting. Even then, I saw stutter and clipping, and the game ran in a pixelated mode that didn't look that great. More casual games, though, such as the futuristic pinball title PinOut, ran super smooth. Google Pixel Slate battery life Power users and creatives will run into trouble, though. The full-fat versions of popular creative suites such as Adobe Photoshop aren’t available on Chrome OS. To make matters worse, key mobile first suites that work on iOS – Procreate and Affinity Designer, for example – are also missing. CON:The Pixel Slate is not cheap and may not be affordable for everyone. Furthermore, its battery life is not as good as some other laptops on the market. The Best Features of the Google Pixel Slate The only performance issues I encountered occurred when trying to use Android apps. Most worked fine, but a number – including popular games such as PUBG – either failed to launch properly or regularly crashed. This is likely a software, not hardware, issue.
