About this deal

Decide how much you want to spend on an amplifier for your Klipsch RP-600M speakers and choose one that suits your budget. In A Nutshell Klipsch's popular flagship standmount, the Reference Premiere RP-600M, is exactly that kind of product, one that I am proud to have championed when it first came out. Really good balance of precision of instruments/vocalists in the soundstage while still having good horizontal dispersion (±50° to ±60°). In the song “Annabelle” I loved how the guitar and horn solos were precisely placed on both sides of the soundstage. Macy’s vocal was nicely focused in the center and sounded very natural. The 600M II made the performance come alive, with nice depth and height, providing a holographic performance I’ve only heard from speakers costing twice as much, like the Polk Legend L200 and the Buchardt S400. As with all equipment, aesthetics are very much a personal choice. To my eyes, the bronze-coloured woofer and horn tweeter look purposeful and have a professional studio monitor vibe, albeit with a touch of glamour. A magnetically attached cloth grill is provided if you'd rather the speaker appears more discreet, although for this review, they were not used.

One of my favorite aspects of the new Klipsch was how it had so much more control down low than the original. This gave the new 600M an authority and weight the original speaker couldn’t match. The Wrap Up The final result is a speaker rated at 94.5 dB @2.83v/1m efficiency which is 2 dB lower than the original model; Klipsch have a reputation for being somewhat liberal with their specs in this regard and the measurements from both loudspeakers have suggested that the real world sensitivity is certainly 2-3 dB less. The nominal impedance is 8 ohms and RMS is 100 watts/channel with a 400 watt peak and the frequency response is rated at 44Hz – 25kHz. The Denon PMA-600NE stereo integrated amplifier is one of Denon’s flagship products, featuring a wide range of features and performance that will make your music sound incredible and divide circuitry (disengage digital circuits). The Denon PMA-600NE has several features that set it apart from similar models, and you will get a multidimensional sound experience thanks to the amplifier’s HD audio decoding and support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X virtual surround sound formats. Utilising Tractrix geometry, the Reference Premiere ports allow for the most efficient, fastest air transfer from the cabinet, which reduces port noise for punchier low frequencies. Klipsch Tractrix ports have custom designed inner flares that help reduce air turbulence entering the port. Less turbulent air helps reduce port noise for cleaner, more powerful bass. BI-WIRING / BI-AMPING CAPABILITY In summary, the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M II improves upon the original in several key areas including greater transparency, enhanced detail, and deeper, more articulate, bass. On the other hand, I did find the top end to be a bit brighter than the first 600M, necessitating even more care in terms of matching electronics.

KLIPSCH RECOMMENDATIONS

As standmount speakers go, this one is on the large side, measuring 400x202x330mm (HxWxD), so although the manufacturer calls it a bookshelf model, you'll need a pretty deep shelf to accommodate a pair. However you mount them – shelf or stand – cork pads at the base of the box are now used instead of the previous model's rubber bumpers to help protect the surface of any furniture that it is placed upon. Of course my goal is maximum enjoyment even if at the expense of coloration so if I preferred something not true to the source I would be okay with that. Additionally, the PMA-600NE amplifier has analog and digital input ports to connect external audio sources. The Denon PMA-600NE is an excellent home theater upgrade that won’t break the bank. The Denon PMA-600NE powers your speaker with 45 watts x 2 channels (8 ohms) and 70 watts x 2 (4 ohms), which is enough power to drive RP-600M speakers. The PMA-600NE also includes optical, coaxial, and phono inputs (connect CD players, Blu-ray players, turntables, and more). The below graphic indicates just how much SPL is lost (compression) or gained (enhancement; usually due to distortion) when the speaker is played at higher output volumes instantly via a 2.7 second logarithmic sine sweep referenced to 76dB at 1 meter. The signals are played consecutively without any additional stimulus applied. Then normalized against the 76dB result. The colormap provides you the locations with the best (green) and worst (red) listening experience.

The On-axis Frequency Response (0°) is the universal starting point and in many situations it is a fair representation of the first sound to arrive at a listener’s ears. The Marantz PM6007 provides the best sound quality in its class and is capable of delivering 2 x 45W (8 ohms RMS, 20Hz - 20kHz), making it compatible with drive Klipsch RP-600M speakers. With independent volume and power controls, the Marantz PM6007 also includes a 3.5mm input to connect Android phones and laptops. The PM6007 is meticulously and masterfully tuned and comes with a high-quality DAC AK4490 for a cleaner sound. Here is another variant of Marantz, the PM7000N, which features a sleek design and powerful performance. This Marantz PM7000N has been praised by audio enthusiasts worldwide. There are four analog inputs, one analog output, one coaxial digital input, two optical digital inputs, and a USB-A input for easy connections. A range of speakers can be powered with the Marantz PM7000N amplifier, which features a versatile design.

Featuring audiophile-grade wire and easily accessible aluminium binding posts for any connection type. FURNITURE GRADE MATERIALS AND FINISHES Horn-loaded speakers usually have high sensitivity, meaning they don’t need powerful amplifiers to drive them. The RP-600M II is quoted as 94.5dB sensitivity, which is significantly more than the 87dB of typical standmount (a 3dB increase doubles the sound pressure). Bottom line; a 20W amplifier should be able to raise the roof through these Klipsch. This is a problem because it means that Spinorama alone, unfortunately, won't give us all we need. Placement and reflections play an equally important role there too. The vented tweeter housing reduces standing waves that create unwanted harmonics, resulting in enhanced detail and clarity in high frequency reproduction. CERAMETALLIC WOOFERS – ALL NEW DESIGN A slight toe-in enhanced the center image, albeit at the expense of soundstage width. I preferred them pointed straight ahead. It was obvious to me that the larger horns were providing enhanced directivity as compared to the older model, and that made placement pretty straightforward.A signature feature on the Reference Premiere series, Cerametallic™ woofers are exceptionally rigid and lightweight for minimal distortion and maximum efficiency. New voice coils are 70% larger in diameter resulting in improved power handling and greater cone control for greater linearity and flawless reproduction. New aluminium shorting rings reduce distortion as well as increased power handling and the new motor structure improve transit response with more control with greater speed and accuracy. TRACTRIX PORTS Finishes include ebony vinyl and walnut vinyl that boast satin painted baffles with a scratch resistant finish. A spectacularly high efficiency rating of 94.5dB makes it possible to use these speakers with just about any amp or mini system. The ultra-high efficiency rating means an amp with a power output of just 10 watts should be enough to power these speakers to high levels. This makes them the ideal match for valve amps or even good quality but lower powered mini systems.

The Yamaha AS301 amplifier is the ideal choice for powering your Klipsch RP-600M bookshelf speaker system since it delivers plenty of power to your speakers for high-quality sound. This baby of Yamaha provides a Direct symmetrical design, great I/O (input to output), and extruded aluminum heat sinks for heat consumption and continuous loudness control, allowing you to enjoy your party music. As the AS301 has a 60 W x 2-ch (20 Hz - 20 kHz) power delivery capability, it matches the Klipsch RP-600M power handling rating, allowing it to drive it perfectly. Get clear Dialogue Clarity now! Having received the royal seal of approval from the hi-fi press over the past five years, Klipsch have experienced a rather interesting resurgence in the audiophile community and that has proven to be somewhat of a double-edged sword.

The sensitivity is 86dB @ 2.83v/1m, despite Klipsch rating this speaker at 94.5dB (using in-room, half-space conditions). If that reads to you as bright or lean, think again. Yes it gets close but the Klipsch stops just short of crossing the line. That usually means the choice of amplifier is important, you don’t want to accentuate the tonal character. Yet even the tonally-light Marantz PM6006 amplifier worked well, which surprised me. Sure it was a sunlit sound. But even brightly recorded music like Quincy Jones’ ‘The Dude’ or Telarc’s ‘Olympic Fanfare’ from Erich Kunzel & The Cincinnati Pops etc – didn’t cross the boundary. In my view, Klipsch's RP-600M II is already a classic. I see it as today's version of my 1993 Acoustic Research M1 or maybe the Spica TC-50 that was popular in the mid-1980s. In my system, it sounded exactly as romantic or resolving, as thrilling or dull, as the amp I chose to drive it with.— Herb Reichert Klipsch likes to refer to the RP-600M II as “bookshelf” loudspeakers and that’s rather misleading from the perspective that they are too large for most bookshelves, and require at least 2-3 feet from the walls behind them to really work properly. On the bottom, the 600M II eschews the standard rubber bumpers for large cork pads, and they work well to prevent slipping. The cork did a great job securing the speakers on my metal stands, but I did use my customary anti-slip mats on top of the stands as well.
