About this deal

We loved this though, particularly Michael's crazed sugar lust ramblings and Kevin's glorious good-enough-to-eat choccy cake illustrations. Also, this may be a great time to note that I apparently am not capable of beating eggs to stiff peaks. Couldn't help but hear Michael's voice reading the story in my head and with all the fabulous noises to make, this would certainly be perfect for reading aloud. Then spread a layer of ganache on the top surface of the cake, making sure that you have an even coating.

We don’t have round cake pans (I used a 9×13 rectangular baking dish instead) and I’m not sure what chocolate butter frosting is. It’s a picture book version of Rosen’s original poem, Chocolate Cake, from his collection ‘Poems and Stories About My Family’, but unfortunately it’s been re-written.

With Michael’s YouTube performance of Chocolate Cake proving to be a bona fide sensation with over 3 million views to date, there’s no doubt that this brand new edition will be a firm favourite amongst families; and a total joy to read aloud.

Rosen's use of sounds and noises will really bring to life the book and get children interested in reading. After seeing it being brought to life by Michael Rosen himself in videos he's posted on YouTube, it's lovely to see it being illustrated by Kevin Waldron. So the past few years, a couple of children’s books have been particularly popular in our house: Chocolate Cake by Michael Rosen with illustrations by Kevin Waldron, and I Really Want the Cake by Simon Philip with illustrations by Lucia Gaggiotti. Michael Rosen is obviously a fellow chocolate cake fan and I could empathise with the little boy in the charming illustrations very strongly.

Thinking he can hide the evidence, the little boy washes up the plate and the knife and goes back to bed. When you look at the picture of the boy in the book, you can decide whether you think he looks like a very young version of me. And then I notice, that as I’ve tidied it up a little bit over HERE, then maybe I could just… even it up a bit over here. What you see on top of the cake are Maltesers, which are round, crunchy malted milk centres surrounded by milk chocolate. It could be used in technology as children could bake a chocolate cake, and look at recipes and their features, which could also be done with KS2 children. And then, I notice on the side of the cake there’s some little crumbly bits just falling off, so I think, if I take a knife, I could just…tidy it up a little bit.

and don’t forget the knife, and don’t forget to put them away, plate in the cupboard, and the knife in the drawer, and back up to bed. A ghost of a smile was on her lips, and he almost sagged in relief as he said, “For you, I’d say that chocolate cake is most definitely a need. Michael picking up crumbs can be used if he's seen typing something or pressing buttons (see 256Pi's Michael's Last Ice Cream to Me Every Dead Floor Roaring Downstairs, where this is used when Michael hijacks a train). as Harold’s book on children’s language was my bible during my B Ed years at Goldsmiths( 1966-70) and Connie lectured us too, Your poetry has delighted my children and now my grandchildren . He is currently Professor of Children’s Literature at Goldsmiths, University of London where he co-devised and teaches critical approaches to reading on an MA in Children’s Literature, having done the same at Birkbeck, University of London.Chocolate Cake' by Michael Rosen is a well known piece of text to all primary school teachers already. Bake in the center of the oven for approximately 50 minutes or until a wooden skewer inserted in the center comes out clean, and the cake bounces back when lightly pressed. A little boy who really, really loves his mum’s chocolate cake wakes up in the middle of the night and decides to go downstairs just to look at it. The poem really is funny and tells a little story about when Michael Rosen’s was a boy and his mum would make chocolate cake which was his favourite snack.
