I didn't like that book (dear heart that story meandered and lost its way) but I do like the premise of books being prescribed. I really enjoyed this book which shows us the world of the New Zealand alpine parrot, the kea, and the larger, flightless parrot the kakapo. It’s bittersweet; frustrating at times because you cannot help but want to shake some sense into Joan.

Also I found the characters, especially Vernon, Jane, and Sebastian, the most compelling of the three. The more her unease grows, the more she realizes that her idea of perfect might have done more harm than good. I know from a biography I read recently that they are quite different, not featuring detectives and murders. They are romances, but in a rather unusual way, as each book (of the four I have read so far) deals with a case of love, not always romantic, but either slightly perverted or inadequate. And Barbara, in a faint little voice had said, ’Darling Dads,’ and after a moment or two had said, ‘Look here, Mother, why don’t you stay?One can’t help wondering if Agatha felt something similar when her fist husband left her, turning her life upside down. Their main interest lies in the psychology of the protagonists; and it is fascinating to read a detailed psychological profile of certain types that have often been encountered in Christie's detective fiction. These novels (I think MW did 6) are not murder mysteries, not anything like what is so popular from AC.
