About this deal

The companion app is very good and easy to use. You can measure the temperature of a point, along a line (highest and lowest), or in a plane (highest and lowest). The camera can measure up to 9 different readings at a time.

The TC004 also features a wide 56° FOV for to easily capture more objects in view. There is also no need to adjust focal length. Below are some photos we took during the testing of various thermal imaging cameras. As you can see, the camera clearly displays multiple measurements (actual, min and max) along with clear colour visuals of hot and cold spots. The IR resolution is a more than reasonable 80 x 60px and you can detect temperatures between -20°C to 120°C with a thermal sensitivity of 150mK. The temperature measurement accuracy is ± 3°C or ± 5%. The image detail is also very good, and it uses the familiar colour code of white being the hottest and blue being the coldest. At the same time, using a separate thermal camera module allows the device to use the processing power of the smartphone, which may have been too much a few years ago, but not now, when we get specs that rival inexpensive laptops. Also, another advantage is the battery life which depends again, on the phone, instead of a built-in one. The power consumption of the Topdon TC001. Note: The potential thermal error will be less than ±1.8°F (1ºC) when the target temperature is below 212°F (100ºC). Thermal imaging company Hti-Xintai produce all sorts of clever IR devices, from phone plug-in cameras to a very cool-looking thermal monocular. The HTI-19 is a handheld thermal imaging camera that shows off some excellent features. In fact, it’s the best thermal imaging camera in terms of IR resolution on my list. Designed with mobility in mind, the TC001 can easily pair with most Android smartphones; the device only weighs 30g, and measures 71x42x14mm; further adding to the TC001’s mobility.

Why do you need a thermal imaging camera? I could rattle off dozens of good reasons, but here are a few uses I've found for mine recently: FLIR’s analysis software, FLIR Tools, allows you to change the color palettes and take readings from 4,800 measurement points in the image files, a little like using the eyedropper in Photoshop. It is nevertheless a noticeably higher resolution than the device’s immediate predecessor, the IR0102, which had a 32 x 32-pixel resolution. As a low-priced device, adding this to your toolkit is a lot less painful than some of the devices on this list, and with fuel prices on the rise, locating leaks (an ideal task for this adapter) could cover the cost surprisingly soon. How thermal imaging cameras work During our ongoing testing, we analyse the camera’s accuracy, usability, customisation (i.e. adjustable emissivity based on the material), additional functions as well as the applications provided to view data afterwards for further analysis.Professional analysis software allows users to easily save and share diagnostic data on a PC. The TC004 also supports screen projection on a PC as well. While the FLIR C-Series produces useful images in good light via MSX, this camera can do so at any time, since it doesn’t rely on visual light to boost its resolution. For our money, that makes it the best thermal-imaging camera for night use today. How come its competitors are limited in this regard? The thermal cameras that are made in the US can be exported without a license as long as they has the frame rate less or equal to 9Hz. Since both Topdon and AGM are built outside the US, they can push the refresh rate a lot higher and it shows. I have captured a video of both AGM Glory Pro and the Topdon TC001 side by side (sort of) and the result was interesting. TC001 is not compatible with all styles of phone cases or tablet cases, the included extension cable may need to be used.

This device could be very useful if you’re evaluating or monitoring the temperature of things. In the image above, you can see my aging company Macbook is getting quite hot in the top center under light use, probably indicating the need to blow out the fans to clear built up dust. The TC001 can take continuous measurements of a scene, storing the data in the App. This data can provide the high, low, and average temperatures of objects in the scene over a set period of time and generate a waveform graph. As we own a number of properties (Airbnb’s and rental properties), we are often asked to diagnose issues that involve the use of a thermal imaging camera. These issues can include diagnosing electrical faults to locating a leak, the list is endless and they are very versatile tools which we’ve had the pleasure of using multiple times over the years. Temperature Monitoring: this allows you to continuously record the temperature of a certain spot or location and generate a chart with the changes recorded over time.

Although there are several of us on the team, including me (Adam Juniper), we generally test thermal cameras by using them in day-to-day tasks like inspecting ventilation/insulation, heating equipment (radiators, boilers) and plumbing (hot water pipes and taps). We also test any special claims made by the manufacturer about individual products, as well as the overall experience. Note: the older CAT S61, still available in places, had a lower resolution IR camera, but offered laser measuring, offering an alternative with even more flexibility. The TC001 is especially suitable for objects where surface temperature is hardly distinguishable, such as circuit boards and other electronics. Beyond the visible spectrum, there is an unseen world of heat radiation. Arty infrared film photographs aside, the practical uses of thermal imaging devices – also known as infrared thermal imagers – traditionally belonged only to military and professional budgets.
